iTunes 8 was released today (well yesterday, but who’s counting?) with new features like Genius sidebar/playlists, HD TV show and a new visualiser. (wow  )
However, they have removed two of the UI options I used, namely hiding the genre in the browser and links to the iTunes store. I don’t find browsing by genre useful; only a handful of my songs have genre tags. I’ve never thought to myself “Self, I really wish I could browse for a specific genre.” Add to that you are limited add one genre to a particular song and for me at least they are completely pointless (tags, on the other hand, would be awesome ;) )
The following is what I do directly after a clean install of Windows XP. This does not mean that everything I do will work for you. Keeping that in mind and ensure you are fully aware of the risks of tweaking your system before doing so.
This information is valid for all versions of XP x86 (32-bit) running Service Pack 3. XP Pro x64 (64-bit) Service information and Configurations are also online.
Before adjusting your service settings, ensure that you or your system has already installed all updates by "checking now" for any available updates via Windows Update.
I cannot possibly test all configurations extensively (meaning, each persons specific computer needs), but what I can offer is what "works for me" and the obstacles I have came across so you do not have to discover them on your own. If information on this page needs a revision or expanded, please Contact BV and I will look into your issue.
How do you make a gradient in InDesign (cs2 or 3) that (for example), goes from black to transparent? I know it's really easy in Photoshop, but I can't for the life of me how to do it in InDesign!
Blue Velvet, that does work...but it is touch and go on different presses. But, here is the cool thing...this is a new feature of CS3. Go to Object > Effects > Gradient Feather. Boom! you've got a gradient that will go from one color to transparent, crazy huh? Just fill the object the color you want it to be, and the effect tell is where to be transparent at. and best of all, you can change it at any time.
All my installers (except those that are Switchless) are in MSI format, so you can install them silently with /qb /norestart switches.
In many cases, the application settings were customized to fit my needs, but the functionality remains intact so you can change their settings after you install them.

It's a standalone application that can be run directly from your iPod and needs no installation under Linux (any GTK2 distro), Mac OS X (10.3.9 or newer!) and Windows (98 or newer, including Vista).
It provides Windows NT4.0/2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008 with full access to Linux Ext2 volumes (read access and write access). This may be useful if you have installed both Windows and Linux as a dual boot environment on your computer.

Windows® XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system.
This is the go-to fix with anything Indesign, especially on the Mac. Plus it’s easy. Instead of deleting the preference files, just rename them. That way, if it doesn’t turn out to be the cause of the problem you can restore them by deleting the newly created preference file and re-rename them back to the original name.
I did this to my system just yesterday and it worked perfectly. Follow these instructions and you'll have it running in no time!
The idea of this thread is to list current third party applications and plug-ins for Media Center. I have a list of most of the current ones mostly from this forum right here.
There are two ways of working with the registry; software based and direct access. The software based method is generally considered to be safe, although a badly behaved piece of software that mangles the registry can make you doubt the wisdom of this statement. Anyone who has used a computer is familiar with the software based method of making changes. Control Panel is an excellent example. Make a change to one of the Control Panel settings and almost assuredly you have initiated a change within the registry. It's just that you are insulated by Control Panel from seeing what went on behind the scenes in the registry.

I've found a way to disable the Thumbnail Cache in Vista, but still have the ability to view Thumbnails in Windows Explorer. This effectively gives you the same capability as in XP.
Did you buy a Vista laptop from abroad and want it to talk to you in your mother language?
Try Vistalizator - this tool allows you to change display language in Vista editions other than (officially supported) Ultimate, like Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium and Business.
Vistalizator overrides the limit of one language on non-Ultimate Vista editions.
